STUDIO | Voice health and chanting for yoga teachers

Voice health is something that's often overlooked by yoga teachers... but as we know, the ability to broadcast your verbal guidance across the room is paramount for leading a yoga class.

That ability comes from having a healthy voice, plus feeling confident in your content and being able to breathe fully and deeply, even whilst teaching, and even whilst demoing.

So, how do you do all of that? Well, that's exactly what this workshop is designed to teach you.

This workshop is taught by our wonderful Jess Gibbard. As a musician, Jess found that flowing, especially to music, was a valuable and expressive tool that could alter mood and energy levels, while also strengthening and releasing tension from the body. As a fully qualified school teacher with a masters degree in music, Jess was keen to translate her teaching and creativity skills to the teaching of yoga.

Jess will be bringing her breadth of teaching to our training; teaching how to project your voice to ensure your instructions are heard and comprehended by all in the class. This encompasses confidence, voice health and overcoming nervousness and stress.

Needless to say, these learnings are incredibly useful, not just for your yoga journey, but for your life as well!

Everything we learn from Jess will be straight in to practice with our chanting practice led by Jess, which will lead in to a delicious led Yin / Yang asana class, including chanting, wrapping up with a divine long Savasana and time for any questions.

What we'll cover:

  1. Why we need to consider vocal health as yoga teachers
  2. The basics of voice health
  3. The anatomy of the voice
  4. Breathing and speaking
  5. Vocal warm ups and cool downs

Who this workshop is for:

  1. Yoga teachers in training
  2. New yoga teachers
  3. Experienced yoga teachers looking to revisit best practices

About Jess

Jess joined Yoga Hero’s teacher training in 2018, and hasn’t looked back since. Jess’s classes are so fluid and rewarding, they provide a real tool for getting out of your head and into your body.

Jess originally began practicing yoga in California, embedding it into her daily life upon realising the many mental and physical benefits. As a musician, Jess found that flowing, especially to music, was a valuable and expressive tool that could alter mood and energy levels, while also strengthening and releasing tension from the body. As a fully qualified school teacher with a masters degree in music, Jess was keen to translate her teaching and creativity skills to yoga.

Now a 200hr registered yoga teacher, Jess’ classes are influenced by Vinyasa and Ashtanga practices while also embedding yin and restorative styles. Jess offers modifications and variations throughout her classes to make them accessible to all, builds awareness of the mind body connection and in turn, enables everyone, to feel the many benefits of a holistic yoga practice.
