Event description

Description

Universally ratified, the Geneva Conventions represent a unique and global commitment by States to humanity. Respect thereof continues to play a crucial role today in ensuring the protection of victims of armed conflicts.

This event will profile instances of how international humanitarian law (IHL) has had a positive impact on the lives of the most vulnerable. It will also launch this year’s ICRC Research and Debate CycleFrom Norms to Action”.

Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President of ICRC, and Ambassador Corinne Cicéron Bühler, Director of the Directorate of International Law of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), will introduce the event.

In an interview-style format moderated by Eva Svoboda, Deputy Director of International Law and Policy at the ICRC, humanitarian workers and victims of armed conflicts will share some success stories of respect for IHL from the field.

The event will be followed by a cocktail.

We look forward to seeing you on the 18th September.
