Sat 25 March 2017, 13:00 – 14:15 GMT
Voices of Hope is a suberb chamber choir and winners of the BBC’s Choir of the Year 2016. Led by Simon Fidler they joined the Centenary Choir, also directed by Simon, to sing the moving World War One commemmmorative suite of THE DURHAM HYMNS. The Hymns premiered at Durham Cathedral in July 2016 with a massed brass band and the two choirs. The a cappella performance of Kiss The Bairns Goodbye by Voices of Hope proved a highlight of the premiere and subsequent concerts.
This performance of the hymns, highlights the range and subtlety of Voices of Hope, as they sing without orchestra but to the piano accompaniment of Alison Gill.
The lyrics for all the hymns and narration are written by the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy with music by Orlando Gough and Jessica Curry.
