Join us for an evening of readings in support of Ukraine.

About this event

Karl Ove Knausgaard, Ian McEwan, neurosurgeon Henry Marsh and poet Alice Oswald are among the writers who will read the work of their Ukrainian peers in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Joining them will be the Costa prize-winning author of Open Water, Caleb Azumah Nelson.

We will also hear video recorded readings by Ukrainian poets Boris and Ludmilla Khersonsky and a conversation with acclaimed Ukrainian poet and academic Ostap Slyvynsky.

This event will take place in Kings Place, London, and audience members can join in person or via the livestream. All profits will be donated to the DEC Ukraine humanitarian appeal.

It is presented in partnership with Intelligence Squared.

Karl Ove Knausgaard is a Norwegian author, whose works include the six volume series of autobiographical novels, My Struggle.

Ian McEwan’s novels include Atonement, Enduring Love and The Child In Time. He won the 1998 Booker prize with Amsterdam.

Henry Marsh is a neurosurgeon and author of the highly acclaimed memoir Do No Harm. He has worked with doctors in Ukraine since 1992.

Pauline Melville was born in Guyana and is the author of several novels and short stores. Her debut collection, Shape-Shifter, won the 1990 Guardian fiction prize.

Caleb Azumah Nelson is the British-Ghanaian author of the Costa winning debut novel, Open Water.

Alice Oswald is the TS Eliot prize-winning author of eleven collections of poetry, including Dart and Falling Awake.

Boris Khersonsky has worked as a neurologist and psychologist in Odessa. He has published seventeen collections of poetry and essays in Russian and more recently in Ukrainian.

Ludmila Khersonsky is a professional translator and the author of four collections of poetry.

Ostap Slyvynsky is a Ukrainian poet, translator, essayist, and literary critic. He has published six collections of poetry and received several Ukrainian and international literary awards.
