Volta do Mar: How Portugal Conquered The High Seas – Wine Tasting
Event Information
About this event
Powered by the trade winds and some of the sharpest sailing minds of the Age of Discovery, Portugal's navigational geniuses expanded their empire to places as far flung as Madeira, India and South Africa. One of the modern legacies of Henry the Navigator, Vasco de Gama and Ferdinand Magellan are the distant plantings of Portuguese grape varieties far from the shores of Iberia.
Tonight's tasting looks at some of Portugal's distinctive white and red wines, particularly from the grape varieties of alvarinho, touriga nacional and baga, as well as roving further afield to see the influence of Portugal elsewhere in the world. Set sail with us as we explore how the oceans and seas have left their indelible mark on the liquid in your glass!
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
