Gain Valuable Tutoring Experience on Your Journey to Becoming a Teacher

Every child deserves the chance to succeed, no matter their background. Action Tutoring is a national education charity working to close the attainment gap and create a fairer future for young people.

If you're thinking about a career in teaching, tutoring with us is a great way to gain meaningful, hands-on experience. Action Tutoring partners with teacher training organisations such as Ambition Institute, Now Teach, and Teach First, so volunteering with us can be a valuable step towards your teaching journey.

We’re building a diverse community of volunteers who are passionate about educational equity. We’re looking for dedicated individuals from all backgrounds to tutor and support pupils facing socio-economic disadvantage in maths and English.

By giving just one hour a week, you’ll not only help pupils gain confidence and improve their grades—you’ll also develop your own communication, leadership, and teaching skills.

If you’d like to learn more about what online tutoring with us looks like, come along to one of our information sessions.

In the first 15 minutes, we’ll introduce Action Tutoring and what volunteering involves. In the second half, you'll have the chance to speak with one of our friendly team members and ask any questions you may have.

To attend, sign up with your preferred email on Eventbrite. We’ll send you the Zoom link, next steps, and a recording of the session in case you can’t make it on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Who are your tutors, and what are the eligibility requirements?

We look for volunteers with a solid subject knowledge in the area they wish to tutor (which may be demonstrated by a degree or grade B at A-level or equivalent qualification, or relevant experience) but we take all previous experience into consideration, so please include anything relevant.

Can I volunteer online? What if I live outside of one of your regions?

You can support us as an online tutor from anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales. To be an online tutor with us you’ll need access to a desktop or laptop computer, a webcam and internet connection, and will need to be confident using online tools.
