About this event

No special skills are needed to volunteer at a Run 4 Wales event - just bring lots of enthusiasm! You can volunteer as an individual, with friends or family, or as a group.

There are a whole range of different roles available on race day, with something to suit everyone including:

  • Help give out bottled water at the water station, located halfway around the route in Llandaff Fields
  • Support the Runners Bag Drop marquee by the start line outside City Hall and chat to runners pre and post-race
  • Be a Course Marshal along the route, directing and cheering on runners
  • Help on the finish line at King Edward VII Avenue, cheering on runners and handing out medals and t-shirts to the finishers

All volunteers receive an exclusive event t-shirt and bag, lunch and refreshments, Tempo Time Credits (a fantastic national reward scheme for volunteers) and on the day support from a supervisor. You'll meet lots of great people - some of our volunteers have been with us for 10 years!

Volunteering is a great way to have fun, make friends, enhance your CV and experience the electric atmosphere of race day. So if you want to have a great day out and find out what mass running races are all about, then why not volunteer?!

PLEASE NOTE: The minimum age for volunteering is 14. Please contact us if you are aged 14 -17 and would like to get involved. Our email address is volunteers@run4wales.org.

If you are part of a local community or youth group that might be interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you. We have previously been supported by the police cadets and scouts as well as social running groups, faith groups and many more.

We also offer corporate volunteering days. If your business has corporate social responsibility goals or would like to enjoy a team building day out of the office, please get in touch.

We are also looking for volunteers for other events during our 2025 events calendar, including the Cardiff Half Marathon junior races on Saturday 4th October and the Cardiff Half Marathon (which attracts over 25,000 runners) on Sunday 5th October. Come along and join us - we're a friendly bunch!

Run 4 Wales (R4W) is a not-for-profit social enterprise and charitable trust set-up to promote, manage and deliver major sporting events such as the Cardiff Half Marathon and Porthcawl 10K. We couldn't deliver our events without the help of our wonderful volunteering community the Extra Milers.

Established in 2012, we have grown into one of the UK’s best-known mass participation event organisers, driven by a desire to deliver world-class events with a positive social agenda. Our events provide a platform to champion mental health, women’s running, community regeneration, diversity, volunteering, fundraising and environmental sustainability. Our surpluses are invested into grassroots sport and community projects through our charitable foundation.
