About this event

  • 4 hours

Always been interested in nature and would like to have a go at practical habitat management activities?

Would like a taste of what woodland conservation work is like?

Love the outdoors and would like to improve your health and well-being in this wonderful ancient Forest?

This is the day for you!

We welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life to join us! The sessions will be led by our Conservation Officer with full approval and support from the City of London Corporation.

Tools and training will be provided on the day.

What are the tasks?

We tend to work in smaller areas where a sensitive and delicate approach is essential. Whether it is your first time or you are more experienced, join us and make an impact to conserve Epping Forest and its biodiversity.

Tasks may involve but not limited to

  • Coppicing young trees to allow more light onto the forest floor
  • Clearing dense Holly growth to allow light to reach the Forest floor, helping to re-establish plant and animal life
  • Removing small Hawthorn, Silver birch and other young trees to open up the grassland more.
  • Using what we have cut to create habitat piles for small animals and reptiles.

What to bring on the day?

  • Weather-proof clothing that you don't mind getting dirty
  • S turdy & weather-proof boots
  • Snacks, water and lunch

Who is the Epping Forest Heritage Trust (EFHT)?

We are a charity and a membership organisation with a big mission to inspire people about Epping Forest, and to conserve and protect its irreplaceable biodiversity, culture and heritage now and for generations to come. We run regular hands-on conservation sessions in Epping Forest every week, usually on Thursdays (more info here). We understand this time may not be particularly accessible to a lot of other volunteers who would like to take part.

We believe everyone should be able to enjoy Epping Forest responsibly and contribute to its conservation. We are now looking to expand our conservation activities to another two sessions a week, and this project us funded by City Bridge Foundation.

Organised by
