Event description

Description

The Mentoring Programme at Onside Warrington Youth Club provides Volunteer Mentor support for vulnerable and at risk children and young people aged between 7 and 18 years old. It increases confidence, self-esteem and supports the child/young person to make positive choices through 1:1 support, befriending and fun activities. Over the course of the next 3 years, 150 children and young people from across Warrington will benefit from this service.

We are looking for a new team of Volunteer Mentors to act as role models and to support a young person in the area of budgeting, independent living and life skills. Mentors must be age 19 years or older and be able to commit to meet with a young person for 1-2 hours per week for approximately 8 weeks.

No experience is necessary as full training will be given to all Mentors prior to being matched with a suitable young person. Training will include:

  • Introduction to Mentoring
  • Child Protection & Safeguarding
  • Professional Boundaries
  • Action Planning & Goal Setting
  • Budgeting and Independent Living Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Understanding Children & Young People

All Mentors will be supported and supervised throughout their journey with Warrington Youth Club and a written reference will be given after 12 months service.

This opportunity is not only a personally rewarding one, but it is a great way to enhance your skill set, explore new career options and improve employability.

Training dates available are:

Wednesday 24th January 2018 - 5:30pm to 8:30pm

further dates to be arranged throughout the year.
