Description

Volunteer with Community Connecting

This introductory training course will cover everything you need to know to begin volunteering with Community Connecting, including:

  • Listening & Communication Skills
  • Building Trust & Motivating People
  • Boundaries & Confidentiality
  • Lone Working Practice
  • Physical & Mental Health in Older People

In addition to this, you'll be given the opportunity to meet other trainees and exchange thoughts in a constructive environment. All training sessions last for approximately 3 hours, give or take up to 30 mins either way depending on the time taken for group discussion and activities. Refreshments and all necessary training materials are provided, so you only need to bring yourself!

The training is a two-part course and attendance at both sessions is required before we can match you with a client. Separate 1:1 catch-up sessions can be arranged during our office hours if you are unable to make it to one of the evening sessions.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Not to attend the training, no. However, to begin volunteering, you will need to complete an application pack which includes providing referees, proof of ID and an application to join the PVG scheme. please contact us at community.connecting@volunteeredinburgh.org.uk for more information.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There are no parking facilities available at the venue. On-street parking is available on various local side-streets, but spaces can't be guaranteed and tend to be quite congested in an evening. We recommend using public transport where possible - Gorgie Road is very well served with the 1, 2, 3, 25, 27, 28 and 33 buses stopping at Gorgie City Farm / Tynecastle, and the 4 and 44 buses stopping nearby at the Murieston crossroad (Henderson Terrace / Ardmillan Terrace / Gorgie Road / Murieston Road / Dalry Road).

What should I bring with me?

Anything you like, but as we provide all training materials and refreshments for the evening, the only thing you really need to bring is yourself.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can call us on 0131 225 0630 or email us at community.connecting@volunteeredinburgh.org.uk.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. The trainer will already have your details and will be expecting you.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, just call 0131 225 0630 or email us at community.connecting@volunteeredinburgh.org.uk to update your details.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes, just so long as you let us know on the night!
