Workshop: Volunteering and the Law

Date: Monday 6th November

Time: 10.30am – 12.30pm

Venue: Charles Stanley, 70-72 Chertsey St, Guildford, GU1 4HL

This two hour workshop will provide an opportunity to learn about, or refresh, your knowledge on volunteering and the law.

In this workshop we will specifically look at:

  • The legal status of volunteers and the difference between employees and volunteers
  • The importance of getting it right from the start and sharing the best practice around
  • Awareness of what constitutes a ‘benefit’ and best practice around expenses
  • The relevance of the Equality Act 2010 and Health and Safety legislation
  • The DBS checks system

The course will be delivered by Jess Hogan-Smith and Caroline Keith from Voluntary Action South West Surrey.

There will be a charge of:

£20 per delegate for Voluntary, Community, Faith organisations

£40 per delegate for Statutory Bodies

Please note our cancellation policy is at least 48 hours’ (2 working days) notice for a full refund. If you give insufficient notice of a booking cancellation, you will still be charged for the event. In circumstances when VASWS has had to cancel the event altogether, a full refund will be given in all cases.
