Description

Would you like to make a real difference in the community, helping and supporting people, while gaining invaluable skills and experience? Are you keen to keep mentally active, work in a team and feel like you're doing something really worthwhile? Have you ever thought about volunteering for Citizens Advice?

Please come along to this friendly, informative event so we can give you the lowdown! We're a local registered charity, and at Citizens Advice Worthing, our volunteers and staff helped nearly 4,500 local people last year*. Our advice can be life-changing. Now we’re looking for new volunteer advisers to join us, and we'd love to tell you more about it. Please note - we are not currently interviewing for volunteer receptionists, but if you'd like to come for the presentation and find out more about the role and what we do, you'd be very welcome.

Come and join us for tea and coffee. You’ll listen to a presentation from staff and volunteers who will tell you all about what it's like volunteering for us, and fill you in on the huge impact our work has. We'll give you the lowdown on the sort of role you'll be working in, the office environment, the training and support you'll receive, and the time commitment we'd be looking for. You’ll also have the chance to ask questions.

The presentation will end by 12pm, but if you'd like to go ahead and have an interview for one of our roles in the afternoon, you can do that. We have a few interview slots available after the presentation is over, which you can book via the links on this page. Please take a look at the FAQs below for more information. If you'd rather apply online and have an interview after the event, that's fine too.

Please note, we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and with a huge range of experience, and we’re registered as a Disability Confident employer. We do ask that our volunteers have a working knowledge of computers, and that you're able to research and understand complex information, and convey it clearly to clients.

We hope you’ll be able to join us on March 5th, and we look forward to meeting you!

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

In Worthing we require all our volunteers to be over 18.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Worthing Town Hall is easily accessible via public transport.
Train: Just ten minutes’ walk from Worthing train station.
Bus: There are several buses that stop outside the Town Hall:
https://bustimes.org/stops/4400WO0244
Drive: There are several public car parks in the town centre:
https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/parking/car-parks/worthing-car-parks/

How can I find out more about volunteering for Citizens Advice?
Take a look at our website: https://www.advicewestsussex.org.uk/volunteering/. If you have any questions, note them down to ask us at the event, or you can email volunteer@westsussexcab.org.uk.

Can I bring my children to the event?
Unfortunately we can’t accommodate children on the day. We’re really sorry about that.

Can I bring an assistance dog to the event?
Yes, absolutely. Unfortunately, no other dogs can be admitted.

Is there disabled access at the event?
Yes, the event is fully accessible. If you could let us know in advance that you require disabled access that would be much appreciated, so we can ensure all necessary measures are in place.

If I want to have an interview on the day, what do I need to do?
We’re offering six interview slots on the day, after the presentation takes place. These will be at:
12.15pm-12.45pm (two slots available)
1pm-1.30pm (two slots available)
1.45pm-2.15pm (two slots available)
Just select your chosen slot when you register. If you’re booking one of our interview slots, we ask you to complete our volunteer application form before the event (please note somewhere in your application that you’re coming to the volunteer recruitment event):
https://www.advicewestsussex.org.uk/volunteering/apply/.
If all interview slots are taken, don’t worry – you can still come to the event and complete your application form, and we’ll set up a phone interview for you after the event.
Please note, we're not currently interviewing for volunteer receptionists, but you're very welcome to come along to the presentation and find out more.

What can I expect from my interview?
Our interviews are a chance for you to ask questions about us, as well as for us to find out about you. Our interviewers are friendly and interested, and they want to bring out the best in you. If you think something that’s happened in your life (that’s nothing to do with work experience) adds to your suitability, tell us! Life experience is just as important in this role as work experience. We do ask though that you have a working knowledge of how to use computers, as you will be using a computer when you’re volunteering for us.

I'd prefer not to have an interview on the day. Is that ok?
Yes. If you’d rather go away after the event and think about everything you’ve heard, to apply online later on, that’s absolutely fine. If you’d rather not apply at all, that’s fine too!

Is there anything I shouldn’t bring into the event with me?
We ask that you don’t bring any recording equipment into the event, please.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Please send an email to volunteer@westsussexcab.org.uk.
