Event description

Description

This year’s annual conference 'Leading the Way" in Volunteering will focus on developing skills and good practice for Volunteer Managers/Coordinators. Colleagues from the public and third sector will hear about how they can improve their own skills to work effectively with volunteers. This event is for people from across these sectors working with or planning to work with volunteers.

KEYNOTE SPEECH - Jarina Choudhury, (NCVO)

Then there will be the opportunity to choose 2 out of 4 workshops as below:

Opening Doors to Volunteering – (Voluntary Action Sheffield) This workshop will explore how we can develop volunteer roles which are open to everyone. Voluntary Action Sheffield will share their tools and expertise developed as part of the ‘New Beginnings Project’ which supports asylum seekers and refugees to integrate into Sheffield life, through volunteering, employment, education and mentoring.

Meeting the Needs of the Modern Volunteer (NCVO) Need help rethinking your volunteer roles? Tired of the traditional and want to try something new? We all know today’s volunteer wants flexibility. But what else do they want? In this workshop we will look at what’s driving current volunteering attitudes and behaviours, and redesign roles that attract, appeal and build commitment.

Dealing with Difficult Situations – (Locala CiC) Facilitated by Debbie Jackson, Organisation Development Practitioner at Locala; this workshop will look at how to address a difficult situation you may need to resolve with a Volunteer. It will provide advice and tips on managing difficult conversations sensitively and effectively, using real life examples.

Management vs. Leadership? What is the difference? (University of Huddersfield) Management and leadership are essential skills for any organisation or professional to have, but what is the difference between them, and is it important? In this interactive workshop you will assess your leadership and management style, discuss the effects of the different styles, and discuss the potential of adjusting your style to get the best out of your staff and volunteers. Delivered by Jim Bamford (Senior Lecturer in Operations Management at the University of Huddersfield).
