Run the River - Volunteers

Run the River wouldn’t be possible without a team of brilliant and enthusiastic volunteers. If you want to be involved, join our team of Volunteers and help make Run the River even better in 2024.

Volunteer roles range from guiding and cheering our runners along the route, to being at the finish area putting medals round our triumphant runners’ necks. Please see below for details.

All Volunteers will receive a full briefing, a t-shirt and something to eat, plus a huge thank you from us and the sense of satisfaction that being involved in an event like this brings.

Please note whilst we will endeavour to allocate you to your role of choice we can not guarantee this. Due to the size and spread of the event, we will require a large number of route marshals to make the event safe.

If you'd like to run in the event, please visit the event page here

Route Marshals

You’ll be stationed along the route as a visual guide to help direct runners to make sure they go the right way. It’s an incredibly important role and ensures our runners stay safe, hydrated and know where to go. It’s also a great opportunity for you to cheer and spur the runners on, so be as loud as possible; sing, dance, shout – whatever it takes to give every runner your full support! Where possible, you will be teamed up with another enthusiastic volunteer so your cheering can be twice as loud together! We have whistles, flags, foam hands and thunder sticks to aid you in your merry making. Please note you must be over 18 to be a Route Marshal.

Baggage Drop Volunteers

The baggage drop is a key part of our Runners’ Village, and is packed full of action and energy. As part of the baggage drop team, your role will be to greet runners, take their bag(s) and ensure they attach the corresponding numbered tag to their arm as you do to their bag. Bags are placed in numerical order to allow runners to smoothly pick up their bag upon Running the River. This is a high energy role that requires good communications skills and teamwork.

Event Village

As part of our Event Village Team you may be deployed to a variety of roles. This could include being on hand at our info tent, prepped to answer any last minute questions and helping to ensure our runners are in the right place and raring to go. You might be asked to help greet all the Run the River runners and hand out t-shirts and help guide them to the warm-up area, so get involved too if you’re feeling active. Later in the evening, we’ll need your help to present runners with their finishers medals as they triumphantly cross over the line.
