Description

This talk forms part of a series taking place in the centenary year of the Representation of the People Act 1918 which gave some women the vote for the first time.

Women who campaigned for the vote, whether suffragettes or suffragists, have continued to appear in stories, particularly for young women, ever since.

Meet our panel who will explain the history of stories about women’s suffrage, and why they continue to be relevant today.

Sally Nicholls is the author of 'Things A Bright Girl Can Do', which follows three courageous women as they join the fight for the vote.

Mary Talbot's graphic novel 'Sally Heathcote, Suffragette', tells the inside story of the campaign for the vote and follows the fortunes of a maid-of-all-work swept up in the feminist militancy of the era.

Further speakers TBC.
