With 16 and 17 year olds being given the vote in the upcoming Scottish Independence Referendum, the Welsh and Northern Irish Assemblies voting in favour of lowering the voting age and now (on the 24th January 2013) the UK parliament voting in favour of extending the franchise – it is time for the Government to act!
On the 12th February we will be holding a lobby of parliament and we want all of you who support votes at 16 to come along. This is an opportunity for you to speak directly to Lords and Members of Parliament and explain to them why they should support lowering the voting age to 16. In order for any future Bill to be succesful we need as many of these representatives to support our campaign as possible. The day will consist of information on the campaign up until now, workshops and training, a press stunt to advertise the cause and direct lobbying of MPs and Lords.
The lobby itself will consist of our supporters meeting with MPs and Lords on a one to one basis to explain to them why they believe the voting age should be lowered. There is already a lot of support for this within the House but we need your help to increase support across all parties.
Agenda for the day:
10:00 – 11:00am Registration for Lobby
11:00 – 11:30am Introduction
11:30 – 1:30pm Workshops and Preparation for Lobby
1:30pm – 2:30pm Lunch
2:30pm – Walk to Parliament
2:45pm – Press Stunt
3:15pm – Lobby in parliament
