About the Event:

The Second South Asian Festival, held in conjunction with the 11th Faiz Celebration, promises to be an intellectually vibrant and culturally rich gathering, celebrating the spirit of South Asia through literature, politics, culture, music, and storytelling.

This year’s festival will feature:

Panel Discussions & Talks:

On politics, culture, social issues, press freedom, and women’s challenges. Distinguished Speakers & Writers: Mohammed Hanif, Wasatullah Khan, Mazhar Abbas, Mazhar Tirmazi, J. A. Chandio, Harris Khalique, Javed Soomro, Tanveer Zaman Khan, and Afzal Butt.

Special Segments:"Jashn-e-Iftikhar" – a tribute to legendary poet Iftikhar Arif. A conversation with cricket legend Zaheer Abbas on the book by renowned sports journalist Qamar Ahmed and insights into journalistic struggles in Pakistan with Afzal Butt.

Art & Performance:

Sufi Qawwali by Junaid Mian, son of Aziz Mian, in his first London performance.Musical performances by Saif Samejo, Latif Ali Khan, and Faizan Ali, presenting Urdu, Sindhi, and Punjabi songs.

Awards:

Presentation of the inaugural EDHI Award to recognise outstanding contributions in social work.

The celebration will recognise Faiz’s poetry, honour his legacy, and engage with pressing socio-political issues of today, offering audiences an inspiring blend of critical thought, cultural pride, and artistic expression.

Do you cater for accessibility needs?

Are there age restrictions for this event?

This production is suitable for all the family however, all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

What are the nearest transport links?

The nearest train and tube station is 'Stratford' which is 5mins walk away from the venue. The venue is behind Stratford Picturehouse and next to Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Is parking available at The Source?

There are a variety of parking options in the vicinity including; nearby blue badge spaces, paid multi-story car park (walking distance) and also in Westfield Shopping Centre. Please be advised that drivers park at their own risk. THERE ARE NO PARKING FACILITIES AT THE SOURCE ITSELF.

What is the difference between 'Executive', 'Premium' and 'General Admission' tickets?

These categories represent designated areas within the Auditorium and offer a variety of viewing experiences. 'Executive' and 'Premium' tickets offer the best viewing experience. All seats do however have good visibility.

What is included in the ticket price?

This ticket gives you general entry to the exhibition, the evening event and includes a food box which will be distributed at 7pm.

Why am I paying more than the ticket price?

A non-refundable Eventbrite booking fee is applicable to each ticket sale.

Do I need to bring my ticket to the event?

Yes please. This will help us register you quickly on arrival. Tickets can be presented as hard copy or on mobile devices.

Do I need to bring ID to the event?

ID will be required to help identify you in the event that you forget your ticket.

Are food and drink available at The Source?

Light refreshments will be available to purchase from the cafe at The Source during the daytime. The event organiser has also included an evening meal box (served at 7pm) with all tickets purchased.

Can I access the venue before the start of the show?

The venue will be open from 3pm when all visitors with a ticket will have access to the exhibitors and following this, the evening event.

Is there an interval during the Main Event?

You are welcome to exit the Main Auditorium at anytime for a comfort break. There will also be a formal intermission at 7pm when the food boxes will be distributed.

Do I qualify for a 'Concession' ticket?

At at the request of the event organiser, Vsaal, concession tickets are available to the those with accessibility needs. Proof of meeting qualifying criteria may be requested.

What do I do if I can no longer attend the event?

Please contact the venue bookings team as soon as possible to advise of your change in circumstances. Cancellations will be considered fairly, case by case. The venue team is available at; thesourcehires@uel.ac.uk
