Event description
The Lingoes Cinema Club will launch its debut screening of a black & white Cantonese film shot in 1956 - The Laments of Red Mansions

About this Event

In partnership with VSF Wine Education, Lingoes Cinema Club will launch its debut screening of a black and white Cantonese film shot in 1956.

The story charts the experience of a Chinese family's gradual decline at the cusp of a momentous change in the history of China from imperial to republic, during which its family members have to wrestle with their own individual demons and come to terms with the inevitable.

The film has been subtitled into English by our in-house translation team at The Lingoes. There will be a brief intro before and 1-hour discussion after screening.

Each guest will be served with a free drink of wine, Japanese sake or speciality tea. Snacks are also available.

An excerpt of the film (without subtitles) can be viewed on YouTube via the link below. Yet, during our screening on 17 Jan evening, English subtitles will be provided.
