XM655 will be live at Wellesbourne on 15th May 2022 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "Black Buck" and the XM597 diversion to Rio.
About this event
XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society are holding a Vulcan Taxi Run event on Sunday 15th May to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the famous Black Buck raids during the 1982 Falklands conflict.
Everyone does BB1, so we will be concentrating on BB6 and XM597's enforced diversion to Rio de Janeiro. Several members of the XM597 crew will be present to recount their experiences together with a number of others who were involved at Wideawake or in the UK. There will also be the opportunity to obtain the autographs of those involved at a book-signing session. Vulcan XM655 will then be powered up and heading down the runway for our first public run of the year.
Viewing will be from XM655's usual parking location at the north-west corner of the airfield. This will give a clear view across the airfield and weather-permitting will be closest to the "high power" end of the runway as XM655 accelerates away.
During start-up of the aircraft, the cockpit intercom will be relayed to the crowd allowing a detailed appreciation of what is required to bring a complex four-engined bomber to life.
After the taxi run, XM655 will return to the viewing area under her own power, providing ideal opportunities for photographs.
Teas, coffees and refreshments will be on sale throughout the event, and the XM655 merchandise store and other outlets will be open for anyone wishing to take home a souvenir of the event.
Gates will open at 10:30 am with activities through the morning until the taxi-run at around 1:30 pm. The event will end at 4:00 pm, and attendees are requested to vacate the site promptly at the end of the event.
Attendance is limited, admission is by advance ticket only and tickets are now on sale priced at £50 for adults. Members of XM655 Maintenance and Preservation Society may contact the Membership Secretary to obtain a 50% discount code.
Under-14s will be admitted free provided they are accompanied by a ticketed adult.
All activities are subject to the serviceability of the aircraft and essential equipment. Should it be necessary to cancel the event for any reason, we will provide full refunds on all ticket purchases. We won’t, however, be able to compensate for other costs you or your guests might incur attending the event, such as travelling or hotel costs.
Sorry - we are unable to admit any animals except assistance dogs.
