W1 Curates in conversation with Gary Card
Overview
Gary Card’s newest exhibition at W1 Curates, Homunculand, invites audiences into one of the artist’s most ambitious and immersive worlds to date. Known for his surreal, maximalist aesthetic and his background in set design, sculpture and illustration, Card constructs an environment that blends theatricality, humour and the uncanny. Homunculand unfolds as a brilliantly bizarre realm populated by hybrid, emotionally charged figures that reflect Card’s longstanding fascination with fantasy, nostalgia and psychological storytelling.
Installed across W1 Curates’ prominent Oxford Street space, the exhibition transforms the venue into a vivid alternate reality, merging the sensibilities of a sculptural studio, a stage set and a dreamscape. To accompany the exhibition, W1 Curates is hosting In Conversation with Gary Card - a special event giving visitors the rare opportunity to hear the artist discuss the creative processes, inspirations and conceptual ideas behind the work.
Together, the show and the conversation event offer a rich and immersive encounter with Card’s hybrid world-building, making Homunculand a landmark moment in his evolving practice and a standout cultural experience in central London.
