Overview

Join Andy West, whose memoir inspired the BBC drama Waiting for the Out, for an evening of collaborative discussion on the nature of freedom

If you have been inspired by the new BBC Drama Waiting for the Out, we have a rare opportunity for you to hear directly from the writer whose experience shaped it.

Andy West will be speaking about philosophy in prisons, the stories behind his book and what he has seen philosophy can offer to anyone who engages with it.

We will give every participant an opportunity to join a conversation, inspired by the dialogues in the programme, around the idea of freedom - of thought, of action, control and learning to be free - and what these mean in Britain today. These discussions will be facilitated by experts from The Philosophy Foundation, Thoughtful, The Royal Institute of Philosophy, Philosophy in Prison and the British Philosophical Association.

We will also feature a special message from Sir Stephen Fry, a patron of Thoughtful, and a supporter for making philosophical thinking accessible to all.
