Event Details

This short course is ideal for you if you are a counselling and psychotherapy student or professional who would like to expand your knowledge of tackling relationship issues in therapy. The course will provide you with a clear understanding of relationship problems and of the way couple therapy works to address them. If you are a counselling student, this will give you a taster of couple therapy, which will enable you to decide if this in non-individual therapeutic field you wish to study further and develop. We will review the main theoretical perspectives explaining couple relationship and its different stages starting with ‘falling in love’ and continuing with various phases such as disillusionment, conflicts, and the process of growth and maturing through relationship. In particular, the course mainly go through object relation and attachment theories perspective on intimate relationships.

As well as learning about the fundamental theories of couple therapy, there will be a strong emphasis on practical application, with the course going through its main techniques and approaches. This includes particular focus on the practical implications of the different theories and therapeutic techniques in everyday relationships and the way these are work with during therapy and how they can help resolve couple hardships. We will look into Imago, Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), Object Relations formulations and interpretations in couple and individual therapy. We will also address sexuality and sensuality issues as part of the relationship pattern using the David Schnarch approach.
