About this Event
Around 1 in 3 people with coronavirus show no symptoms and unknowingly spread the virus to others.
Lateral Flow tests are now being used to test people who show no symptoms (asymptomatic) and are rapid coronavirus tests which can provide a result within 30 minutes. People who cannot work at home during lockdown, or who have to leave the house for critical volunteer or caring responsibilities, are more at risk of catching and transmitting coronavirus. We are offering these people regular (twice weekly) testing to help identify more symptom-free cases of COVID-19 and prevent them from infecting others.
Lateral flow tests give a much quicker result than PCR tests but are less reliable. It’s likely that around one-third of people who receive a negative result will still have COVID-19 and be infectious. For this reason it is very important that even if your test result is negative, you continue to follow ‘hands-face-space’, and all COVID-secure guidance in your workplace.
A negative result does not guarantee that you are not infectious.
Lateral flow tests are most effective if carried out regularly so we would like people to commit to attending for testing twice a week, preferably a minimum of 3 days apart.
Who can get tested?
Currently, only people with no coronavirus symptoms AND fall into the below categories:
- You’re aged 18 or over
- You live or work in Wakefield You are unable to stay at home during lockdown because of your job, voluntary or caring responsibilities.
- You are willing to have regular (twice weekly) tests whenever possible
Please only book a test if you meet the eligibility criteria. To book a test, please follow the online booking instructions. The service runs Monday - Sunday 8.40 - 19:00.
We advise that you book tests regularly twice a week, and get tested twice, 3 days apart.
