Event description
Join us for a walk around Pugneys lake together with your family and friends, to remember loved ones and raise money for Alzheimer's Society

About this Event

The Walk is being opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wakefield, Councillor Stuart Heptinstall and Miss Charlotte Heptinstall and starts at 11.00am, even if it is raining! This will be a fun walk once around the lake, with additional information stands and stalls. There will be an Alzheimer's Society Wakefield District information stand for help and advice.

There are toilets, a cafe and parking on site - please note that car parking charges apply. (Please contact Pugneys for more information about the facilities - 01924 302360) You don't have to wear anything special but please come in suitable footwear and dressed for all weathers. If you would like to purchase an Alzheimer's Society t-shirt, or any other product, please go to www.shop.alzheimers.org.uk and select 'branded products'. The route is wheelchair and pushchair accessible and there will be volunteer marshalls wearing high vis. yellow vests. Please feel free to bring your dog but please keep it on a lead at all times.

If you would like to ask friends and family to donate via a sponsorship form, please email wyuad@alzheimers.org.uk

There will be plenty of opportunity to donate on the day through the collection buckets, or at the donation desk in the room next to the cafe in the reception building.

Please collect a free bottle of water, a 'Forget-me-Not' flower badge, and 'I'm Walking For ...' label and safety pins (to pin on your clothing) at the tables outside the reception building. Here you will also find a 'Memory Heart' on which to write the name of your loved one to hang on our special Memory Tree.

If you would like to assist our fundraising by having a go on the Tombola and the 'Teddy' game - and to browse the information on the stands, they will be available from 10.00am. People will be called for the Walk to start at 10.50am at a point just past reception and it will take place in an anti-clockwise direction. Volunteers will be available to direct/help/advise.

The Walk will finish at approximately 1.30pm at the end of the 'Trim Trail', where volunteers will be handing out certificates.

Thank You. For every step you take and every pound you donate you will be giving hope to thousands of people living each day with dementia, or affected by it. The Wakefield Memory Walk is at the start of Dementia Action Week and you will be part of a fantastic example of the Wakefield community coming together, uniting against dementia and walking for a future without this condition.
