The story of this often neglected division in 1812

WAL2 - The Seventh Division in 1812

21 January: John Morewood: The 7th Division’s 1812 journey to Salamanca, Madrid, Burgos and back again. Battles and sieges. Triumphs and disappointments?

The 7th Division liked to think of themselves as ‘the other Light Division’. They consisted of British, Brunswick, KGL and Portuguese units as well as the exotically sounding Chasseurs Britanniques. Due to their cosmopolitan nature the army gave them another nickname: ‘The Mongrels’. In this talk we follow them during their 1812 campaign.

John Morewood graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Modern History in 1980.He writes and lectures on the army and navy during the Napoleonic Wars. He is Secretary of the Waterloo Association
