The 8th edition of Wales Exercise Medicine Symposium (WEMS) organised by Cardiff Sport & Exercise Medicine Society (CSEMS)

Wales Exercise Medicine Symposium 2020

Tickets are now on sale for the Wales Exercise Medicine Symposium on Saturday 25th January 2020. Registration will start at 09:00 for a 09:25 start, with the day finishing at 16:15.

Ticket Prices

There are two ticket options available:

  • Standard ticket - £20.00
  • Student ticket - £12.00 (Valid student ID required on the day)

Refreshments and cold lunch will be provided. Both meat and vegetarian options will be available. We regret that due to the size of the event, we are unable to cater for individual dietary requirements and cannot guarantee food will be free from allergens. We therefore recommend those with special dietary needs should bring their own lunch.

Who should attend?

The day is designed for exercise professionals, doctors, physiologists, physiotherapists, sport and exercise scientists, sport and exercise medicine practitioners, allied healthcare professionals and students in the aforementioned fields and anyone working within the exercise industry.

Delegates will be educated and inspired about the latest developments in physical activity for health. The aim of the conference is to promote Exercise as Medicine and to highlight the importance of physical activity across a range of areas.

CPD points will be available.

The event has been awarded 5 CPD points from the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine UK (FSEM). We are currently finalising CPD from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).

  • Colin Moran (University of Stirling) - BBC Terrific Scientific: Citizen Science and the Acute Effects of Daily Mile-like Activity on Cognition and Wellbeing.
  • Richard Bracken (Swansea University) - Glycaemic Management around Physical Exercise with Type 1 Diabetes.
  • Brian Johnson (Public Health Wales) - Physical Activity Advice in 5 minutes - Can it be done?
  • Craig Ranson (English institute of Sport) - Managing the Physical and Mental Health of Olympic & Paralympic athletes.
  • Nicky Keay (Durham University/Institute of Dance Medicine and Science) - Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S).

Poster Competition:

We are welcoming submissions from professionals and students on topics related to Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Posters can be on any topic related to SEM, including reviews, case report and original literature. Submission of more than one project is permitted, but only for distinct pieces of work. The poster will be marked on clarity of ideas and originality of work. Shortlisted entries will be contacted via email and will be required to bring their printed poster with them.

The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday 10th January. Posters should be submitted electronically for consideration, and entries should be emailed as a Microsoft PowerPoint attachment (A0 format) to CardiffSEMS@Hotmail.co.uk.
