Can children do the walk?

Children are welcome to do the walk, but must always be supervised by their parent or carer. 25km is a long way to walk for a child. You might prefer to join us at Worthing for the shorter route.

Do I have to be fit?

25km is a long way! You should only take part if you are fit enough to do so. We recommend training beforehand. Let us know in advance if you have any medical conditions.

Will there be rest stops?

You will receive a map which will highlight rest stops on route.

Question 4

Where will I find all the information I need to prepare for the day?

As soon as you register, we will send you an event pack, which will include: event details, how to set up a JustGiving page, fundraising tips, what to bring on the day, what we will provide and safety information.

Question 5

How do I raise money?

We will give you instructions in your Event pack on how to set up a Just Giving account and link it to our event. It only takes minutes but if you have any trouble at all, just give us a ring. We suggest you set it up as soon as possible. Then share it with everyone you know on socials & email.

Question 6

What if I don't raise £250

Accepted Answer

We will not be insisting everyone raises exactly that amount but you will be surprised how much people will want to help, if you just ask them. 25km is quite an achievement and Home-Start is a brilliant charity supporting local children, so most people you know will be willing to give!

Question 7

Why is there a registration fee?

There are various costs associated with putting on an event (refreshments, T-shirts, medals etc - including the time it takes for staff to organise it.) If there is a surplus in registration fees, the money will be used towards supporting children and their families.

Why is the registration fee non-refundable?

Accepted Answer

We will have to order medals, refreshments etc well in advance. It also takes staff time to organise refunds. As this event is a fundraiser to support local children, everything raise will go towards this aim. The fee is also kept low so that it will not be felt too harshly on the purse.

What is the route?

Whilst the first section is alongside a busy road, the vast majority of the walk is along the beautiful coastline from Shoreham to Littlehampton. The route is mostly flat but there are sections along the beach which are not wheelchair accessible and walkers should be careful. Maps will be provided.

Why are there two routes?

25km starting at Southwick is for confident walkers. The 13km route from Worthing was suggested by staff who have dodgy knees and hips! This is to make the event more inclusive. It is up to you which route you walk but you MUST let us know before the day so we can register you in the right place.

Question 11

I am walking with a child, do we both have to raise £250 each?

Accepted Answer

It's probably best that you set up your JustGiving page for both of you. You could set your target a bit higher at £400 and make it explicit that donors are sponsoring you both to do the walk. We won't be chasing walkers to reach targets but in our experience, people generally do reach set targets!

How do I get to the start and finish?

We will provide transport options in the Event pack but we do encourage public transport as both start and finish are close to public transport options. Paid parking is available - details provided in the Event pack. Remember that you will have to get from the end to start point to collect your car
