We catch the bus from Ironbridge to Leighton to visit Cressage and Harley, returning to Ironbridge via the Shropshire Way and Benthall Hall.

Route Description:

From Leighton we follow a lovely river loop to Cressage, walking through the village to Belswardyne Hall. We cross fields to Harley, looping through the village to Wigwig before climbing Wenlock Edge. We follow the edge towards Homer, before looping back towards Much Wenlock. We pick up the old railway line and then the Shropshire Way to Benthall Hall, before dropping back to Ironbridge through Workhouse Coppice.

Grade of Walk: Moderate

Pace: Steady

Terrain: Mixed terrain, using field and woodland paths and lanes.

Steps and Stiles: No steps, but includes stiles, some of which are awkward. There is a single plank bridge to cross a brook. Sections may be muddy.

Dog Friendly: No

General Information for Walkers

All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections.

Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route.

Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather - possibly both in the same day!

Children ( aged 12-18 )accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility, may be able to undertake this walk. Please contact info@ironbridgewalking.co.uk to discuss.

Please allow plenty of time to reach your event parking can be tricky in the Gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. For information on local bus services see www.arrivabus.co.uk or www.telfordpublictransport.co.uk .

Medals are available for anyone completing 25,50,75 or 100 miles over 3 or more walks during the festival and if you complete over 150 miles you will receive our new Cartman Challenge medal – it has been done!!!
