Event description

Description

The way we design our streets determines who can use them. Places that the able bodied can easily navigate may be an invisible minefield for the visually impaired or disabled. Parts of our cities are already 'no go areas' for some people - and recent changes to our streetscapes, intended to improve matters, may actually be making things worse.

This is a walk - or a wheel - with a difference. We are asking able-bodied participants to put themselves in the hands of those with a mobility or visual impairment and see - or not see - the city through their eyes. As we move together through our streets we will gain a deeper understanding of how our environment disables people through the barriers we unknowingly put in their way. We will also gain in trust and understanding of each other and open up a more fruitful dialogue about how we want our cities to be.

Hosted by We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote jointly with RNIB Scotland and Spinal Injuries Scotland and is part of the Fire Starter Festival 2020 https://firestarterfestival.com/.
