Event description

Description

Over and Under the Hill’ is an exciting heritage boat and walk event. Either walk out over the hill and return on the boat or take the boat out with the walk back over the hill. You will learn about the construction of the nearly two mile long 200 year old canal tunnel with heritage guides showing you the evidence of the tunnels construction while on the walk over the hill. You will find the hidden gem at the Blisworth end of the tunnel of the hut where the “leggers” waited for their next boat to be propelled by their feet through the tunnel. There you can view the murals whilst waiting for the boat or preparing for the walk back to Stoke Bruerne.

This walk includes uneven terrain along footpaths unsuitable for pushchairs and for which stout footwear is recommended. Even in hot weather the tunnel can be cool so bring an extra layer of clothes with you. Under 18’s need to be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be on a lead during walks and on the boat.

This event is free and wouldn't be possible without the support of The Ramblers, and the Canal and River Trust.

The walk takes 1 hour and 30 minute and will be at a leisurely pace. Allow two and a half hours for the walk and boat ride

All boat trips and walks are on a first come first served basis but walkers must have registered and collected wristbands first. Please arrive at the Ramblers gazebo on the Canal Museum Green at least half an hour before the start of your booked departure time to register. On line tickets holders will need to swap their booking confirmation for wrist bands at least 30 minutes before the departure times shown.
