The South East London Suicide Bereavement Service invite people who have lost a parent to suicide to join us for a gentle walk & talk around Beckenham Place Park on Saturday 25th October at 11:30am.
People have told us that they would value the opportunity to connect with others who understand the unique grief of losing a parent to suicide. Those who have lost a parent either to suicide or suspected suicide, are very welcome.
If this is your first walk with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining on your own. You will quickly find yourself in a friendly, understanding group.
The walk
The walk will be between 2-3 miles long and should take around 45 minutes. We will stay together as a group throughout the walk.
We hope this will be a relaxed and welcoming opportunity to meet other people who have been through a similar experience, as well as getting some fresh air and exercise to support our wellbeing.
Meeting point
We will meet in the courtyard of the Homestead Café - our walk leaders, Sam and Justin, will be there from 11:15am and will be standing in front of the gift shop, which is on the left when you enter the courtyard.
Please arrive in time for a 11:30am start. We will eventually return to the cafe, where you are welcome to stay for a tea/coffee and continue chatting.
Getting there
The nearest stations are Beckenham Hill (Thameslink) or Beckenham Junction (Southern, Thameslink, Southeastern). There is a paid car park inside the park, opposite the café, and free street parking on Foxgrove Road and various other streets around the park.
If you have not parked inside Beckenham Place Park before, please read the parking instructions carefully before travelling.
Please note that:
- This walk is not suitable if you cannot walk unaided and we will stay together as a group throughout the walk.
- There are public toilet facilities in the park
