The South East London Suicide Bereavement Service invite people bereaved by suicide to join us for a gentle walk & talk around Greenwich Park on Saturday 27th December at 11:30am.
Anyone who has lost someone important to them, either to suicide or suspected suicide, is very welcome.
If this is your first walk with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining on your own. You will quickly find yourself in a friendly, understanding group.
The walk
The walk will be between 2-3 miles long and should take around 45 minutes. We will stay together as a group throughout the walk.
We hope this will be a relaxed and welcoming opportunity to meet other people who have been through a similar experience, as well as getting some fresh air and exercise to support our wellbeing.
Meeting point
We will meet in the courtyard of the Pavillion Café - our walk leaders, Ian and Tristan, will be there from 11.15am and will be standing in front of the Pavillion Archway.
Please arrive in time for a 11.30am start. We will eventually return to the café, where you are welcome to stay for a tea/coffee and continue chatting.
Getting there
The nearest train stations are Blackheath (10 minute walk), Greenwich (8 minutes) and Maze Hill (2 minutes) which are all on the South Western Railway. The closest DLR station is Cutty Sark (for Maritime Greenwich). There is no underground station within easy reach of the park, so we would recommend using the mainline rail services shown above.
Greenwich Park is accessible by the 380, 386, 53 and 54 Bus.
There is a main car park located either side of Blackheath Avenue at the southern end of the park. It is accessible from Charlton Way as shown on the park map. Vehicle parking is available from 7:00am to park closing times and is charged at 35p per 15 mins / £1.40 per hour / £5.60 for the maximum stay of 4 hours, payable by cash and card.
Disabled parking is available along Blackheath Avenue.
Please note that:
- This walk is not suitable if you cannot walk unaided and we will stay together as a group throughout the walk.
- There are public toilet facilities in the park
