About this event

Walk for Poppy 2025

Last year about 50 of us took part in this simple walk through the lovely countryside near Bath. We remembered Poppy, and we raised awareness of young suicide through talking about it together and with friends, and by raising an amazing £5000 for Papyrus. We would love to invite you to join us again this year on Saturday 13th September.

On 21st March 2021 we lost our wonderful daughter Poppy to suicide. We miss her laughter, kindness, sassy cheek and creativity. This is the second year we are arranging this short(ish) walk through the beautiful countryside to remember Poppy, raise awareness of young suicide and support Papyrus (www.papyrus-uk.org) during International Suicide Awareness Week.

You can help in 3 ways.

  1. Please share these details with your friends and family, and post on your social media.
  2. Make a donation to Papyrus through the Walk for Poppy Just Giving Page (https://www.justgiving.com/page/poppywalk?utm_term=7dakz5YnZ).
  3. Join us on the 13th September. Everyone is welcome . The walk takes about 4 hours, plus an hour or so for lunch, tea and cake at Monkton village hall. If you would rather not walk, we would love you to meet us at Monkton for lunch and cake.

About the walk

The walk leaves from St Gregory's School at 11am, and heads through South Stoke village, down into Midford Valley to Monkton Combe village hall. We will get together for lunch (bring your own packed lunch) , tea and cake . We will walk back the same way.

We would love as many walkers as possible to wear a Papyrus T-Shirt. If you don't have one, you can buy directly from the Papyrus website.

You can access a map of the walk - click here (https://www.komoot.com/tour/1495095141?share_token=a8j3oUqzzSn3Bx7b81P3dWWnG58x2RbHVJON0NWOt2UtfgGd22&ref=wtd)

To join the walk, please select 'reserve a spot' on this eventbrite site so that we can plan and contact you with details.

Frequently asked questions

Who can join in the walk?

Anyone! The more the better!

Is there any cost, or do I need to raise money to take part?

Please feel free to take part - there are no requirements. But if you can, it would be great to ask friends and family to support by making a gift to Papyrus through the Poppy walk 2025 Just Giving Page (click on details above)

Is the route suitable for everyone?

The walk is just over 6 miles, sometimes on uneven ground. The way back is steep. But it is suitable for anyone who can walk for 2 or 3 hours. If you would like to join in but would rather not walk, you are welcome to join us at the village hall, walk half the route or help with tea and cake.

Where can I park?

There is parking in St Gregory's school or in the Odd Down Park and Ride.

Are there toilets?

We can use the toilets and facilities at St Gregory's School at the start and finish, and at Monkton Village Hall at the halfway point.
