Welcome to the Walk of the Dead!

Join us for a walk exploring life and death through burial practices in archaeology, uncovering how ancient communities honoured the dead. As the path winds upward to the headland, we’ll shift our gaze to the night sky, discovering how stars, myths, and celestial cycles have long been linked to beliefs about death and the afterlife.

Walk in the footsteps of our Bronze Age Ancestors as they buried their dead in the round barrows at Hengistbury Head.

Discover our Stone Age Hunter-gatherers’ Camp

What did they think about the night sky 12,000 years ago?

Full of promise or fear and superstition?

Be prepared for some surprises!
