Join us for another in our series of Walk & Talks, on Farms and Crofts across Scotland. This one is supported by National Lottery Community fund.
Come and learn about the host's farming business, with the chance to connect with others and have informal discussions about wellbeing, during the farm walk as well over afternoon tea.
Our aim is to encourage farmers and crofters to take time away, to connect, learn, share food and talk about the value of wellbeing as part of the business.
Park Farm is run by three generations of the Neilson family, who have been dairy farming in Auldhouse, East Kilbride for over 100 years. Hugh, Glen and Grant manage the day-to-day farming operations, while Ross oversees the milk processing and retail delivery business. Grant also splits his time between the farm and Park Farm Strength and Fitness — a gym facility based on-site.
The farm uses modern technology throughout its operations, including eight Lely robotic milkers, robotic silage pushing, waterbeds, and renewable energy with battery storage. These systems are all designed to prioritise animal welfare and milk quality.
In 2020, a bottling plant was built on the farm, enabling milk to be pasteurised, bottled, and delivered directly to homes and businesses across the local area. Because the milk is bottled just metres from where it’s produced, Park Farm is the only dairy in Scotland offering milk deliveries with full traceability and virtually zero food miles. The business now delivers to over 3,500 households and 500 businesses through a growing local network.
