About this event

Community • Heritage

The logistics of the tour are being finalised but it is hoped that we can get some vehicles closer to the township of Crathie, reducing the walking required. The meeting point is at Spey Dam, beyond Laggan, map reference NN 582937. What3Words ///tastes.familiar/showcase.

In 1841, more than 30 families lived in this village and the adjoining community of Balmishaig. They were mostly of the Catholic faith. However, the isolation of the area and the effect of two world wars caused a steady diminution of the popultation, and the last permanent resident left in 1951. All that is now left of this formerly vibrant community is the ruins of the various houses.

The walk will be led by the Rev Robert Brookes and also Peter Moore from Laggan Heritage.

The walk/drive will start at 11am, so please aim to turn up 10 minutes before the start at Spey Dam, where we will aim to consoldiate into fewer vehicles.

Please bring a packed lunch and drinks with you for sustenance.

Pre-booking is essential.

Please wear stout footwear as the ground may be rough underfoot. Also please wear outerwear that is appropriate for the weather on the day.

We look forward to meeting you at the event!
