Walk to Wellbeing - Sill Circular
Event Information
Description
Walk to Wellbeing in Northumberland National Park - Haltwhistle Burn
Get out and get healthy in Northumberland National Park with our Walk to Wellbeing Programme.
Northumberland National Park and Active Northumberland are working with Healthy Walks leaders to design walks suitable for people wanting an easy introduction to the inspirational landscapes of Northumberland National Park.
All walks are led by West Tynedale Health Walk trained volunteers.
This walk from The Sill - National Landscape Discovery Centre, crosses the Military Road and joins the Hadrian’s Wall at Steel Rigg. Walking west above Winshield Crags we reach Caw Gap where we leave the wall and head south to Melkridge Tilery. Then heading east the walk takes us past Cranberry Brow and then back to The Sill - National Landscape Discovery Centre.
Please note that the end time is approximate only, as the walk rate will be that of the slowest walker.
We can quite often end the walk with a visit to a local cafe or pub (the costs here are your own!)
To avoid disappointment we recommend you book your tickets in advance online as places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The booking for the event will close before the event takes place, often on the afternoon of the last working day prior to the event. There may still be tickets available; unless this event shows either that booking is essential or that tickets are “sold out” you may still be able to attend simply by turning up on the day. However, do note that places are always allocated on a first come first served basis because of number restrictions.
Please dress for changeable weather, wear walking boots or shoes and bring drinks and snacks with you. Sorry, dogs are not allowed on this walk. If you have not already booked online, please pay on arrival at the walk start point.
Distance: 5.25 miles
Terrain: Farm tracks and good footpaths. There are a few moderate ascents and descents. There are sections of the walk on minor country roads.
Meeting place/walk start point: The Sill - National Landscape Discovery Centre, Bardon Mill, Hexham, NE47 7AN. (Car park charge applies).
Directions: On the B6318 (Military Road). An hour's car journey west from the centre of Newcastle and 45 mins east from Carlisle (Hadrian's Wall Bus stops here).
Postcode: NE47 7AN
For those wishing to use GPS/Sat-Nav to find walk start points please note that, particularly in open country, postcodes cover a large area, so, whilst the postcode will get you to the right general area, you will still need to follow the detailed directions to locate the actual Walk Start Point.
