About this event

Walk Leader: David King

Join Ranger Dave for an exclusive early morning guided walk around the Castle Water and the farmed part of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, a peaceful and less-visited part of the reserve. Previous attendees of Dave's walks said:

"Relaxed atmosphere, highly informative, friendly, good length, great to be able to look through the ranger's telescope."

"It was really lovely to have such an expert guide who obviously enjoyed his job and was so knowledgeable."

Focusing on migratory birds and their sounds, you'll spot seasonal wildlife and hear from Dave about the work of the Rangers and our volunteers with the chance to ask questions. The early start will help us spot and hear some different birds in this wildlife haven which is renowned for its variety of bird species.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a wetland habitat of international importance, particularly for waterbirds. There's a mosaic of habitats including grazing marsh, reedbeds, scrub, gravel pits and ditches, which support many rare and vulnerable species.

Meeting point: Off Sea Road, Winchelsea Beach. Exact location to be emailed to attendees before the event. Private parking will be available at the location.

What to bring: We recommend bringing binoculars if you have them, although we’ll have some available to borrow. Please dress for the weather, waterproof footwear is recommended as the grass may be wet.

Toilet facilities: The nearest public toilet is about a mile away on Dogs Hill Road, Winchelsea Beach, TN36 4LX – a disabled toilet open to all users.

Accessibility: Our gently-paced walk will start and end near Sea Road. As paths are unsurfaced, the route is unsuitable for wheelchairs but should be accessible for more rugged mobility scooters.

Dogs: Please note that although we welcome well-behaved dogs to the café, they are not generally permitted on our events, walks and courses (except assistance dogs).

Cancellation policy: Refunds are not usually available within 30 days of a scheduled event and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
