Event description
A synchronised walking workshop, exploring how we can connect the stories of our landscape together.

About this event

By collectively journeying through a landscape we can experience the intimacy of our surroundings together and perhaps create new ways of interacting with our everyday environment; on our doorstep. Shifting our focus, we can look to the unfurling fern, feel the crinkling of an autumn leaf in our hand or hear the sound of falling rain. When we walk together, we can braid these moments in a collective tapestry.

This online workshop will explore shared experiences of local landscape through walking, engaging with nature and mapping our encounters together. Through sense-based activity, we will engage with our surroundings, exploring the everyday places we inhabit, walking with intention and tuning into what is already here for us.

The online workshop will bridge the indoor with the outdoor and experiment with an online / off-line approach to eco-therapy. We will meet online initially for a meet and greet and a sharing place, followed by a synchronised walk. Journeying singularly, held within the same timeframe, we will move through our respective places in a collective walk. We will then gather together online to share our responses, weaving our sensory stories and walking experiences together. The gathering will offer a safe, holding space for inner and outer exploration and reflection. We will archive our walks through sensory drawing and memory mapping, preserving our encounters.

About Stephanie Whitelaw

Stephanie is a professional artist and ecotherapist who is a graduate of the Ten Directions ecotherapy programme.

In her own words:

My practice involves the facilitation of art and nature walkshops for urban communities. Eco-therapy is the collaborative exchange between ourselves and the natural environment. It promotes focused time spent outdoors to improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

I believe Nature can stimulate creativity, providing a powerful resource for the imagination.

Silent walking and responsive Art making can encourage a connective conversation within the environment and unfold the relation between inner and outer landscapes.
