About this event

Join Jim Day, People and Wildlife Ranger for the New Forest NPA, for a walk to explore the east of the Forest.

In 2025 we are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the New Forest National Park, and this event is a perfect introduction to the New Forest - especially for people new to the area and anybody who wants to learn about the role of a national park ranger while enjoying the stunning landscape, finding out about the history and management that has shaped it, discovering seasonal wildlife, and understanding how we can all do our bit to protect and keep the New Forest special.

The walk will take up to three hours with time for stops. It will mostly be along gravel tracks and include some small hills.

Walkers should bring a drink and any snacks they may like with them. Warm clothes should be worn as well as waterproof layers. Suitable footwear is essential such as waterproof walking shoes or boots, or wellies. People who wear trainers should bring a change of shoes and socks for the end of the walk (just in case).

Parking will be available in Deerleap car park, where attendees should look out for a ranger who will make themselves obvious.

There are no toilets in the car park but the nearby New Forest Wildlife Park has kindly permitted the group to use its facilities before and after the walk. The Forest Kitchen Cafe will be open and serving a range of sandwiches, cakes, and drinks.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
