Join Jim Day, People and Wildlife Ranger for the New Forest NPA, for a walk to explore the wilds of the north of the Forest.
In 2025 we are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the New Forest National Park - this event is a perfect introduction to the New Forest, especially anyone, young or old, new to the area, who wants to learn about the role of a national park ranger while enjoying the stunning landscape, finding out about the history and management that has shaped it, discovering seasonal wildlife, and understanding how we can all do our bit to protect and keep the New Forest special.
The walk will take up to three hours and include time for stops. It will mostly be along gravel tracks but include some moderately steep ascents and descents as well as streams to ford along the way.
Walkers should bring a drink and any snacks they may like. They should also wear warm and waterproof layers. Suitable waterproof footwear such as walking boots or wellies are essential. Anybody who wears trainers should bring a change of shoes and socks for the end of the walk (just in case).
Heavy rainfall may result in a shorter, but no less beautiful, route on the day.
Parking is available in Godshill Cricket car park where attendees should look out for a ranger. There are no toilets in the car park but the nearby Fighting Cocks Pub has kindly allowed the group to use its facilities. The nearest public toilets are in Fordingbridge town centre.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
