Walking the Hidden Lower Tyburn River

We start at Baker Street Underground station, and walk the section of the route of the underground River Tyburn all the way down to the Thames.  The River shaped the West End, becoming a major boundary between the great Estates of the area, and travelling through Marylebone and Mayfair.  While the River was never large, it did represent a major element in London's water supply.

It links many important sites.  In the past the people living in the area of the Tyburn would have been poor - as the damp and smells from the River would have been unlikely to attract wealthy people.  Today it is very different - the River passes through some of the grandest areas of London passing under Buckingham Palace.  But if you know where to look you can see glimpses of the past.

Note we do not visit the well known Tyburn execution site.  This is on the similarly named Tyburn Brook (which is a tributary of another Hidden River - the Westbourne).

This walk starts by the Sherlock Holmes statue outside Baker Street Underground (the main Marylebone Road exit).    The walk will end at the river Thames at Pimlico and will be about two and a half hours long.  Please check the Transport for London Journey Planner site for travel details.

If you wish to walk the entire length of the Tyburn from Hampstead to Pimlico, please also book the morning tour "Walking the Hidden Upper Tyburn River"with the booking reference https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/walking-the-hidden-upper-tyburn-river-tickets-26700813853
