A journey through late Victorian Deptford using the maps and notes of Charles Booth as he created his famous 'Poverty Maps'.
About this event
This walking tour features excerpts from the notes Charles Booth made to compile his famous 'poverty maps'. We follow the route he took to establish the living conditions of the inhabitants of one of London's toughest late Victorian neigbourhoods. We hear from contemporary and other writers and comentators to complete a picture of Deptford's rich history as well as its modern 'gentrification'.
Two thirds of the way through this tour we take a brief rest at one of the area's best pubs.
