Overview

Come explore the beginnings of London's dockland story!

In 1802 the West India Docks opened, an unprecedented development which saw Poplar blossom to dominate the eastern side of the Tower Hamlets.

Just downriver is Blackwall. It was an important embarkation point long before the arrival of the East India Company in 1617.

This tour tells of the beginnings of London’s dockland, the capital's trading interface with the world.

Meet me outside the Lopndon Museum Docklands - the nearest stations are Westferry and West India Quay DLR Stations. We finish at East India DLR Station.
