About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Victoria Station opened in 1860 and since then it has developed as one of London's main transport hubs. In this tour, hear how a canal basin was filled in to enable the railway station to be built. Learn how Victoria main line station was actually two stations side by side. For the first 60 or so years they were completely separate, and that explains why there are two War Memorials in the station. and why even today the destination boards still reflect this old divide. Discover why Victoria became the gateway to Europe and the pioneering role it had to play in air travel from the 1930s. Plus discover the bus routes which have been running on the same routes for over 100 years and why Green Line Bus routes are numbered in the 700s. Who knew transport could be so interesting.
