The Invitation

Please join us on this beautiful walk through the Norfolk countryside while helping others – everyone welcome!

We are walking to support the unpaid carers in your community.

This 'journey' (it's more than a walk for those who do it all!) will take place over three days.

Day One: Friday 20th Sept: Norwich to Lyng

Day Two: Saturday 21st Sept: Lyng to Great Ryburgh

Day Three: Sunday 22nd Sept: Great Ryburgh to Walsingham.

How can I participate?

This is a supported walk of between 12 and 15 miles a day. You can come by the day; you can come for all three days and camp overnight or stay elsewhere more comfortably under own arrangements.

If you camp your overnight kit (small tent, camp bed, sleeping bag and clothes etc) will be transported for you.

Fund Raising

Our target for this event is to raise £50,000 for the Unpaid Carers in Norfolk, which the Norfolk Community Foundation will distribute to local voluntary organisations throughout the county who care fo and support our carers. So each participant, whether by the day or for the whole journey, will be expected to persuade their friends and family to sponsor them. Every £1 counts. £50 a day raised by each of our target total of 600 participants would amount to £30,000. £100 a day would amount to £60,000

Who can take part?

We welcome participation by walkers of all ages including young walkers. There are no charges for those under 18, but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. If you want to organise a group of school children or cadets please contact the organiser for special registration arrangements.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No but all those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

I am under 18. Do I need a ticket?

No and we would love to see young people take part. If you are under 16 you will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

I have a group of under 18's who wish to participate i.e scout, cadet or school groups. How do I best register their participation?

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Participants will be expected to make their own arrangements. There is good parking in Norwich and Lyng. We are making arrangements in Great Ryburgh. We are looking at the possibility of organising a bus service back to the start point each day. We will be posting updates on the finer details of the event so check the website www.walking4norfolk.com to see the latest information on all this. We are working on making this as easy as possible for participants

What will be the daily programme?

Participants will assemble by 9.30am for a 10.00 departure. We will dispatch walkers in groups of twenty each with a couple of guides at intervals. The distance for the day will be between 12 and 15 miles. It is not a race! We will have two check points on the route each day to be sure we have not lost anyone! We all should have arrived at the appointed destination each day by 4.30 pm.

What should I bring with me?

If you come by the day, bring a picnic, plenty of water and rain gear. If you are 'overnighting' you will need a small tent (although there will be space for at least 30 in a village hall in both Lyng and Great Ryburgh), camp bed, sleeping bag and overnight gear. All this will be transported for you to the next destination.

What will be provided for those staying overnight?

There will be supper and breakfast provided for the overnighters at a modest price. Both Lyng and Great Ryburgh have a pub or two and may be we can persuade some musicians to entertain us!

Can I bring a dog?

No! We are regret to have impose this rule but the route is predominantly on minor roads and unsuitable for walking dogs.

How will the ticket money be spent?

We are trying to keep the running costs of this event to an absolute minimum. We are providing everyone with a complimentary branded T shirt and inevitably there will be some costs incurred in ensuring we keep everyone safe e.g. traffic management, communications and marshalling expenses. But as much as we can we will rely on volunteers and external sponsors to ensure we keep these as low as possible and raise the maximum amount for the great and deserving cause of supporting unpaid carers in Norfolk.

Is there a refund policy if I cannot attend?

All money raised is going to charity and so there will be no refunds

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes please bring your ticket to exchange for your complimentary Walking4Norfolk: Caring4Carers T shirt.

What will happen when we get to Walsingham?

Walsingham Abbey have kindly agreed to let us use their grounds to have a small celebration on the Sunday afternoon. More details about this will follow on the website www.walking4norfolk.com
