Description

This Conference run in partnership with the West Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative showcases SPACE - a 2 year, large scale Quality Improvement project in Walsall Nursing Homes. The conference provides an opportunity to:

  • Discover how nursing homes in the Walsall Borough have been applying QI tools and techniques in every day practice, to improve quality of care for nursing home residents.
  • Learn how QI methods have impacted on reducing avoidable harm and improving safety culture in Nursing Homes.
  • Hear how front line staff and managers have developed innovative solutions to improve quality in a challenged system.
  • Question the speaker panel, including care home managers and staff about their QI journey through SPACE.
  • Hear about achieving excellence in dementia care from Association of Dementia Studies

Who is the conference for?

This conference is for all staff interested in improving the care of older people particularly care home providers. It is also relevant for registered health care professionals, care staff, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Educational leads Local Authorities, Health Watch, third sector organisations and Care Quality Commission.

Why is it important?

The United Kingdom has about 20 000 nursing and residential homes and approx. 430 000 residents with frailty, multimorbidity or cognitive impairment. Upward trends in ageing population and dementia mean that Nursing Homes care is likely to increase. Walsall Borough has already made significant improvements through collaborative working and benefits of an enhanced health care model for Nursing home residents. This conference shows the next phase in this Quality improvement journey to improve quality of care for nursing home residents.
