About this Event

Opening lunchtime concert WALTHAM FOREST CELLO FEST 2019 - DUO BRIKCIUS [2 Cellists - 2 Siblings] will take place on Sunday 6th October 2019 at 1:15 p.m., at the Engine House - Walthamstow Wetlands (2 Forest Road, N17 9NH, London).

The two cellists, brother and sister Anna Brikciusová and František Brikcius (Duo Brikcius), will introduce a programme for two cellos featuring Duo pour 2 violoncelles, op. 53 n°1 by French composer of German origin Jacques Offenbach (1819 - 1880). Duo by "Terezín" Jewish composer Gideon Klein (1919 - 1945), written shortly before World War II. Then Double Concerto by Italian baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741) followed by Fantasie IV. and Bridges for two cellos by Czech composer and organist Irena Kosíková, who lives in France. The music is dedicated to Swiss bridge builder Toni Rüttimann.

"The Duo and other pieces by Gideon Klein were promoted and revised by composer Vojtěch Saudek (1951 - 2003), grandnephew of Franz Kafka."

WALTHAM FOREST CELLO FEST 2019 ("London Borough of Culture meets Classical Music") commemorates the 334th anniversary of the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach, the 327th anniversary of the birth if Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini, the 200th anniversary of the birth of German - French composer and cellist Jacques Offenbach, the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jewish composer Gideon Klein - Gideon Klein Centenary, the 100th anniversary of the birth of American Jazz Cellist Fred Katz - Fred Katz Centenary, the 60th anniversary of the death of Swiss-born American composer Ernest Bloch and London's first ever Borough of Culture in 2019!

Waltham Forest Cello Fest forms part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, which commemorate the legacy of journalist, musician Daniel Pearl, brutally murdered by group of terrorists for defending freedom of speech.
