Description

Wanderlust and the road not taken
Wednesday 9 October

This event is sponsored by Caffe Terra

A relaxed evening discussing the wonders of travel, tales from far off the beaten path, and the why and how of getting to the middle of nowhere.

Join us to hear from our intrepid INSEAD explorers (and travel photographers), who have ventured to all those places that we also yearn to see, and hear how their experiences have changed them and what they bring back into their everyday lives. We will be hearing from:

Adonai Herrera-Martínez (MBA 09J), works for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), previously in Istanbul coordinating the bank’s sustainable energy activities in Turkey, and is now based in London working as director for environmental funds. Previously, he worked at UNDP in New York and Dakar, and at CERN in Geneva, where he developed his PhD research on the elimination of nuclear waste.

Adonai is a keen off-the-beaten-track traveller and an opportunistic photographer (Instagram @adonaihm). His passion for adventurous journeys is a family affair, as both his parents made sure their wanderlust was passed onto him from an early age. He still backpacks with his 71-year old mother at least a couple of times per year. Why does he travel? Possibly because it makes him feel free, alive and appreciative of the wonders of the world, including its people.

Sumit Bahukhandi (MBA 09D), switched to a career in insurance following time in banking and strategy consulting. He currently heads Corporate Venturing and Incubation at Directline, where he has founded a couple of highly scalable insuretech businesses. While Sumit has no qualifications in insurance, he is a professionally qualified wildlife guide.

Sumit admits he likes to travel, though of late he has started to question it all. Perhaps it was never about travel, but more a quest to find that one place from his childhood stories again, before it ceases to exist, if it ever did. Over the last few years, travel photography has come to the rescue as an antidote to the inevitability of his quest.

Moderator: Rachna Chowla (MBA 09D), doctor by day, poet by night, and a want-to-be adventurer, as curious as you about what our INSEAD friends have to share with us from their wanderlust-filled lives.
