About this Event

This is a unique tour which not only includes visits to the some of the best-preserved battlefields of the Italian campaign, but also passes through some of the most beautiful countryside of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. The tour will follow the advance of the Allies from Florence to the infamous Gothic Line and beyond, and includes the battles of the bloody and attritional campaign in the Apennines as well as the often ignored partisan war that was taking place concurrently. One of the places we will visit is Monte Altuzzo, the best-preserved battlefield in all of Italy. It was also the subject of a special study by the US War Department and features as one of the three case studies in the official history The US Army in World War II: Three Battles. Despite this, it remains a largely forgotten episode and is a site that is rarely visited. Another is the Monte Sole massif, where the Stella Rossa partisan band were based. It is also the site of the single largest civilian massacre in Western Europe during the war, and a hauntingly beautiful place. Coupled with this we will also be visiting a wonderful winery where we can see the vineyards and wine production and sample some of their delightful wines. In the evening we will provide a sumptuous dinner accompanied with the local gorgeous Tuscan wines.

The tour includes all, accommodation, all meals accompanied with wines, travel in country (flights are not included) and all talks.

The cost is only £1100 inclusive, to reserve you place please pay a deposit of £200 per person via eventbrite.com.
